An action packed inaugural women’s Lancaster GP saw Sammie Stuart finish third, maintaining the team’s top results in this year’s National Road Series, and helping extend our lead in the team standings.
After a relatively calm start, the race started hotting up the second time up the QOM climb when Danni Shrosbree and four other riders attacked off the front. Behind, the peloton started to splinter and the five leaders managed to get a gap but were reeled in a lap later.
The QOM proved a good launch pad for further attacks, although none was given much breathing space. The attritional nature of the course saw a heavily reduced peloton hit the QOM for the final time. It was there that the winning break began and saw two go clear to the end. Mary Wilkinson from Team Boompods took the win and Stuart won a closely fought sprint for the final spot on the podium.
Jess Finney, Emma Matthews and Danni Shrosbree finished in what was the remainder of the bunch not far behind Stuart.
We continue to increase our lead in the National road Series team standings and Stuart moves up to 2nd in the individual standings.
