We were back in Spain for our debut at the UCI 2.1 Stage race, Vuelta Ciclista Andalucía Ruta del Sol. In one of the finest team performances we’ve seen at this level so far, Becky Storrie was our top finisher in 8th in the General Classification. Our best UCI team result to date and Becky’s best individual career result.
After almost 9 hours of racing across three tough mountainous stages, Becky was just 1:41 down on the race winner – Arlenis Sierra, the Cuban national champion from Women’s WorldTeam Movistar.
The whole team played their part in the result, and finished the race strong. Beth and Katie in particular were involved in the action on each stage and finished in the main bunch. Becky went from strength to strength as the race progressed and in the final stage she made a select breakaway group of ten riders that stuck to the finish.
CAMS-Basso came 10th out of 16 teams and picked up more UCI points. Andrew Paine, Co-Team Owner said, “I’m really proud of how the team performed, they really rose to the occasion. We are gaining so much experience every race. The conditions were tough with the heat and the parcours, but they pulled together. Becky was able to hold her own with some very experienced climbers at the front of the race and really excelled in the mountains.”
The team is back in the UK this weekend for the first round of the National Road Race Series, the Lincoln GP.
